Coordination center and next september 17th
First of all, we apologize that the website has been down for a few
days. After a small hacker attack, not serious in itself, there's been a
small "crisis of growth," as it's been difficult to get it up back and
running since the site is so large. We finally decided to move the site
to a more powerful server and we believe that we come out on top since
from now on it will be less likely that we encounter problems of that type.
Now, a notice from Enric, with updates on the 'We Can Live Without
Capitalism' campaign.

New Notice
Since 65 days of detention, I've spent a while getting updates on
everything that happened while I was in prison. On Monday, June 1st, I
was able to meet with comrades from the CRISIS Collective in Barcelona
that had assumed a good part of the coordination for the 'We Can Live
Without Capitalism' campaign in my absence, although some parts have
fallen by the wayside.
The reason for this is that at the moment of my detention the
coordinating center, which had been functioning for more than a month,
had completed its mission (editing and distributing the publication
¡Podem!) and we were beginning to prepare a new coordination center for
a new phase of action after M17. No one can assume to task of creating a
new center and in place of that the collective met in Barcelona and
assumed the responsibilities that it could.
A little over 2 months later, in the last meeting of the collective in
Barcelona, we have agreed to create a new coordination center with this
message explaining it to you.
Now we'll explain in more details what we have planned.
Coordination Center: What, Why and How
The coordination center is a physical space that centralizes all of the
information and from which various people with free time perform a
series of coordinating tasks that wouldn't be able to be done
individually from home.
The reasoning behind the coordination is spelled out in the important
tasks that will have to be done:
-Compile the contacts of many people from online forms and facilitate
their participation, making sure that the can communicate with people in
the same region or project, after contacting them by telephone or email.
-Inform all of the participants and website users with frequent
bulletins. Being able to do all of this with efficiency is key for a
movement that wants to facilitate the participation of a lot people.
-Facilitate work and communication among different work groups and all
of the people that are helping out from their places of residence with
the same objectives, as well as other tasks that will develop as the
movement evolves.
In order to make it possible for a group of people to do all of these
tasks efficiently and continuously without having to pay anyone, we'll
have to set up a large space--either a house in a town or a country
house--from which all off the participants in the coordinating center
can do the work while having housing, food, and travel costs.
Our idea is to put in a place a center of coordination by the end of
june and from there have it function uninterrupted (until we finally are
living without capitalism ; ->)
This is an invitation to participate; get in contact with us
(coordinacion@17-s.info) if you are available for a few weeks in the
coming months!
On the other hand, the coordinating center will facilitate the
participation of people that can't come but are available to work from
homes, since we'll be able to count on a core group that will be able to
distribute taks that each person can do from where they are.
We are also looking for houses or country homes with extra space so that
we could accommodate half a dozen people in a few weeks. As an exchange,
we can offer hours of our time to help with housework or another local
project. Additionally, we would be able to assume costs of the services
that we consumed in the course of our stay (light, internet, phone
service..)
To finance the coordinating center we are counting on donations from
people and groups that can do so; you'll be able to donate on our
website soon.
In this vain, if your debts are paid off and you'd like to make a
'financial objection' to donate to the campaign, get in touch with us.
This is a center that will operate in Catalonia (although people from
all over can participate) to coordinate the movement, everywhere that
it's necessary, but we hope that it serves an inspiration for other
centers across the country so that our organizational capacity can
gradually increase.
Towards September 17th 2009
As we explained in the publication 'We Can,' especially in the central
pages, we want to convert September 17th, 2009, the first anniversary of
the publication of CRISIS, into a starting point to take capitalism out
of our lives. This is the official date that we have set for the bank
users' strike and we'd like to energize the whole country--city by city,
neighborhood by neighborhood-- so that that everyone who wants to take
steps towards personal and social change can meet their neighbors who
want to as well.
In the next weeks we will focus on collectively preparing a guide of the
steps people can take to contribute to this day of action. If you would
like to be in the work group that develops this guide you can join
online at:
http://www.17-s.info/grup/17s2009
You can also join via the groups email list:
http://llistes.moviments.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/17s2009
Once the guide is made, we will make it public and start the online
forms and groups so that everyone that wants to participate in S17 in
their town can be put in touch with us, either to be a local organizer
or simply to confirm that they'll be there.
Other than the common action that we will coordinate across the country,
those collectives and affinity groups that want to to contribute their
creativity and self organization can carry out autonomous actions in the
framework of the 'We Can Live Without Capitalism' campaign.
100 days until S17--the clock is ticking.
We can be the change that we want!
